"Myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human cultural manifestation."
- Joseph Campbell

Welcome to the Myth Grotto, my little slice o'life on the World Wide Web.

The Grotto is part of my nearly life long effort to make it as a writer of stories. As a child I used to scribble down short adventure tales, usually mere copies of what I had seen on television or the movies or what I had read in books. More than one of those bore uncanny similarities to The Hobbit and Batman comics. Although they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I doubt J.R.R. Tolkien or Bob Kane would have blushed at those early stabs at writing on my part. But it was a start.

As I grew older I wrote more and more often, and my English teachers although continually frustrated by my inept spelling, encouraged me to keep on writing. But life changes and by the time I hit university, I was more interested in sports and girls than I was in becoming a writer. It was not until I fell bass ackwards into a career as a journalist that I fell back in love with the written word.

After a few years in the business, learning the craft of writing on the daily basis, I got the itch to write something more than just what other people are doing - which is the principle job of a journalist. I wanted to write something of my own, a novel, a short story, a comic book - anything.

I hummed and hawed for years and then finally had enough of my own complaining decided it was time to put up or shut up. And so By the Blade was born - an original comic book story in development, with a first rate art team brining my words to life. While the artists worked on the first issue of the story, I wrote a second comic book story - a short horror/suspense story titled The Confessional and again lucked out with an excellent art team to translate my scripts to a visual medium.

I had originally created websites for both stories, just with the intent of using web space to showcase them. But I wanted to create a better online home for them, and a place where I could host other projects and hopeful reach other artists who want to discuss the craft of writing.

The Myth Grotto is the result. Along with providing a new home for some my projects, it also has a blog page for those who want to talk about writing, or just rant about whatever it is you want to rant about.

Above all, I hope the Grotto can be a place of possibilities. Where imagination and will to succeed are promoted. So I have adopted as motto for the Grotto - heh, that rhymes - the Latin phrase: "aut viam inveniam aut faciam" which means "I'll either find a way or make one" - sound advice to anyone starting a new adventure.

So welcome to the Grotto, dig around and see if there is anything you like, and don't be shy to add your voice to the site.

Cheers;

Grant T. LaFleche.
